This beautiful vase is a combination of swirling color and an amorphous, free-form shape and is evidence of how glass artists use gravity as a tool to add a sense of movement and style to their art. While still extremely hot and malleable, Tom Kelly and his team get the glass to just the right shape and size before inverting it, deliberately forcing it to flop toward the floor. This technique requires a lot of practice and excellent timing, adding an elegant wavelike or scalloped shape to the vessel. Each piece is unique and will vary slighlty from the photograph.
